Designpergola #theoutdoorexperts celebrates 20 years.

Our aim is to deliver furniture of high aesthetical value and structures suitable for your outdoor space. We also care about the footprint we leave on our planet and this is why all the factories we work with fully comply with the international laws of environmental protection as well as with all legislation on work ethic.

We also believe that the average consumer is changing, we are all becoming more informed and more demanding. In the last years, people who actually value the sustainability of a product in their decision making is increasing with a 16% rate. World-known Anna Wintour visited Greece last year with a basic aim to awaken us on environmental issues, and labor legislation. She told us that fashion means ideas that last in time. She urged us to buy less, to consume less.

This issue is becoming more and more important and it will definitely have an impact on our industry as well.

Architects designers and engineers are the people who can make a change and a step forward. They are the people who can propose what a hotel needs to buy, in order to have a well-designed and sustainable outcome that will last in time.

So the real question is, what do decision-making people need to know when they need to decide on outdoor materials?

The king of all materials is teak wood. Teak is the only material that not only is recyclable but it is renewable as well. You put 2 seeds on the ground and you leave the rest to nature. Its longevity is such that it can last for more than 200 years. In the UK there are benches that actually were made since 1900 from recycled teak wood.

Another important element we need to check is that our teak wood comes from certified government plantations. That is to say that each log holds an FSC sign which shows from which plantation it comes from. Not all plantations are certified. Sometimes child labor and stolen forest logs are a very harsh reality.

Apart from teak wood, there are many other materials being used for outdoor constructions such as aluminum, iron, and synthetic fiber. The key is to always remember to invest in quality. If we invest in the quality we reduce trash, and we save energy.

One needs to take into account that it is not only the investment in quality that we need to consider but also the investment in the design itself. Before a chair is launched in a market it needs to pass through many tests before the day it is actually sellable.
