How to maintain the pergola of my terrace.

The pergola of our garden or terrace is an extension of our home. Whether it is a retractable construction or a fixed one with aluminum or wood, pergolas need maintenance and cleaning. There are many designs and alternatives, and that is why in this article we will try to cover a wide range of structures.

Aluminum pergolas

Let's take the case of the retractable aluminum pergolas. These are the constructions that need the least maintenance. Clean the load-bearing frame with water and detergent. If your construction has a cloth in addition to aluminum, it is important to prevent the formation of mold. Absorb the dust with a broom or wipe it with a damp cloth and a discarded. The cloth should be dry before cleaning it and you need to dry it before closing it. In retractable constructions, it is important to pre-arrange a check on the cloth to see if it has tears or if some seams have been ripped off. Check the aluminum construction mainly in the gutters and make sure that they do not have garbage inside. Repeat this check twice a year.  Make sure that the moving elements are working properly and contact us in case you detect a problem. Avoid pouring water into the electrical mechanisms of the awning.

You should keep the retractable structures open in case it snows as they cannot withstand the extra weight that will result from the snow. The retractable constructions should be supervised in the air as each model has specific specifications as to how many Beaufort it can withstand. In case you see that the conditions are extremely difficult you need to pull the awnings inside the cassete.

Wooden Pergolas

In case your construction is made of wood, you should maintain it every 3 years approximately depending on the conditions prevailing in the area where it is placed. If your construction is made of pine, use impregnation paints, while if it is made of teak wood or irocco, use special liquids for these woods.

In case you have in your construction reeds or wicker you should replace them when you see that they have rotted.

Manual cloths are washed on the floor of the veranda with a lot of water and detergent. If some stains persist and do not leave with regular washing, try dry cleaning.

The maintenance of the pergola is a very easy task that should not be neglected. Make sure that before you buy it you have fully understood the advantages and disadvantages of your construction and be informed about the maintenance you need to carry out.
